Project Description

DYA provided an independent review of the continued settlement of Walls 712/713 for the Exposition Construction Authority (Expo) Light Rail Transit (LRT) Phase 2.  Walls 712/713 are segments of two MSE retaining walls that support the embankment fill between South Bundy Drive on the east and Centinela Avenue on the west.  The mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) embankments will support the elevated double-track sections between bridges that cross over roadways.

Ongoing monitoring of Walls 712/713 had indicated that they had settled over 10 and 13 inches, respectively, since the beginning of monitoring (which started approximately 7.5 months after embankment construction was complete) through April 2015, and settlement was continuing.

DYA reviewed the design and construction documents provided by Expo and settlement records provided by the design-build contractor.  DYA's scope of services consisted of reviewing geotechnical design and construction documents provided by others, performing preliminary engineering analyses, consulting with the project team, and providing geotechnical conclusions and recommendations.
