Project Description

Diaz•Yourman & Associates (DYA) provided Construction Quality Assurance/Quality Control services for the SR 22 Design-Build project.  The SR 22 project is along an existing 12-mile corridor through four different cities in Orange County, California, built to Caltrans standards.  Highlights of the project include 32 bridge structures, which were widened, modified, reconstructed, or newly constructed.  Bridge structure types included both pre-cast and cast-in-place girders, all of which are supported on pre-cast concrete, cast-in-steel-shell, or steel pipe piles and 73 retaining and sound walls, with a total length of approximately 14.3 km.  Retaining/sound wall types included cast-in-place, pile supported, mechanically stabilized earth (MSE), and tieback.  DYA created and implemented a project-specific, ISO 9000 Construction Quality Control Plan, which covered all aspects of the constructed work and managed a staff of 40.  DYA was responsible for management of inspection and materials testing and documentation of both temporary and permanent works, such as structure work, excavation shoring, traffic, roadway and paving, construction earthwork, and structures.  DYA laboratory services included materials testing of soils and aggregates.  ASCE Region 9 awarded the SR 22 project “2007 Project of the Year.”
