Project Description
Diaz•Yourman & Associates (DYA) performed a geotechnical investigation for the proposed Downtown Harbor in San Pedro, California. This project begins POLA’s grand revitalization of the San Pedro Waterfront Program, promoting the Downtown Harbor as a memorable district of cultural, institutional, and educational uses with the emphasis of reintegrating downtown San Pedro with its waterfront. The plan includes preservation and restoration of historic buildings and artifacts, which include a new fireboat display structure; public open spaces, which include a grand waterfront promenade; water feature; and new town square. The project included preparing plans, specifications, and estimates to construct new waterways, promenades, and berthing facilities for the Downtown Harbor area.
DYA’s design services for the project included the following:
Reviewing and analyzing existing information
Conducting a field investigation
Performing laboratory testing and engineering analyses and preparing a soil data report
Providing geotechnical and foundation analysis
Performing pavement design
Determining corrosive issues
Preparing a written report
DYA also provided assistance during bid support and performed observation during construction. Construction observation consisted of oversight and direction for the jet grouting and piles.
